What is EtherEye?
EtherEye is a simple network host checker. You give it some IP addresses or domain names and it'll ping them and give you the results as standards compliant HTML or RSS.

How does EtherEye work?
It uses the `ping' command on your system to check if a host is up or not.

What do I need to use EtherEye?
You need an operating system with a `ping' command and an installed and configured web server with PHP support. You'll also need to ensure you have support for expat within PHP (if you can't have this, you'll need to use a version of EtherEye prior to 1.5) and PHP safe mode disabled (or the location of 'ping' added to safe_mode_exec_dir in php.ini). EtherEye can run on Linux, UNIX, MacOS X, Windows and many more.

EtherEye says all my machines are down - what's wrong?
Either all your machines are actually down, or you've not set one or more of the ping command line options correctly. See the installation guide for instructions.

I'm getting errors about an undefined offset?
This appears to be caused by a bug in the Windows version of PHP 4.3.9. A work-around was added to EtherEye version 1.1 which should fix it.

I'm getting errors about an undefined variable?
This is caused by a bug in EtherEye 1.5. EtherEye 1.5.1 was released to fix it.

EtherEye doesn't support my language!
Unfortunately nobody has contributed a language file for your language yet. Please see the README for instructions on how to translate EtherEye.

What happened to EtherMap?
EtherMap was renamed to EtherEye when 1.0 was released as there are lots of projects called EtherMap. Now we have a unique name which is easier to find on Google.

Why doesn't EtherEye do <insert feature here>?
EtherEye is meant to be simple. If you want a more advanced monitoring application, take a look at Nagios.

How do I integrate EtherEye's results into my website?
That depends on the language you're coding in. Basically you need to parse the EtherEye RSS feed, which shouldn't be too difficult.
If you do integrate EtherEye's results into your website, it would be nice if you'd add a link to this site, but you don't have to if you don't want to.

How do I verify the downloads using PGP?
See these instructions.

Who writes EtherEye?
David Johnson writes EtherEye.

Why is the EtherEye logo so crap?
Please get in touch if you can do better!

Why are there ads on this site?
The author may write free software, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like money!

Is there a mailing list or forum?
There is a mailing list for discussing EtherEye or asking questions relating to usage or development. You can sign up here.
